Nike and RTFKTstudios Announces 'CryptoKicks', First-Ever NFT Metaverse Sneakers
Nike has introduced its first digital metaverse sneakers, the Ethereum NFT-based RTFKT x Nike Dunk Genesis CryptoKicks.
The first digital sneakers from Nike and RTFKT are now here. On Friday, RTFKT Studios, the digital fashion and 3D creation studio that Nike acquired in December, revealed a collection of co-branded digital sneakers on Discord and Twitter. The shoes, known as Nike Cryptokicks, are based on the Nike Dunk sneaker and mark the brand's long-awaited entry into digital clothing.
The RTFKT x Nike Dunk Genesis CryptoKicks are digital wearables that appear to be intended for use in metaverse worlds. RTFKT first teased them on Twitter with a teaser video that shows how the look of the digital shoes can be changed using collectible "Skin Vials" that can be swapped to enable different styles and clothing.
Nike's first CryptoKicks can be purchased using RTFKT's MNLTH NFTs, which were airdropped for free to holders of RTFKT's NFTs, including CloneX other earlier RTFKT NFT sets.
Today's reveal came after a series of quests, or puzzles, that collectors had to solve before RTFKT launched the website that allows holders to access the mysterious NFT vaults. The MNLTH vaults contain a pair of CryptoKicks, a single Skin Vial, and a second MNLTH vault, as some holders have shared on social media.
RTFKT x Nike Dunk Genesis CryptoKicks are already selling on secondary markets. As of this writing, the sneakers on OpenSea start at about 2.31 ETH, or more than $6,800.
