Cameo Video App Launches an Ethereum NFT Membership Pass

Cameo, a personalized video chat platform for celebrities, has made the switch to Web3 by releasing an NFT membership Pass. 

Cameo, a popular app that allows users to purchase personalized video greetings from celebrities and internet influencers, has entered the NFT market. Cameo Pass, an Ethereum NFT that functions like a ticket to unlock exclusive events and incentives, was officially revealed today by the company.

Debuting on February 17, people can purchase a Cameo Pass to gain access to limited-edition art, events, celebrity Q&As, and early access to new features on the video app. Passes cost 0.2 Ethereum, ($530 at the time of publication). The NFT collection will include artwork by Doodles article Burnt Toast, and others including Vinnie Hager, and Luke McGarry. The proceeds from the launch will be used to expand Cameo's exploration of metaverse-related projects.

Cameo's entry into the metaverse marks the company's evolution as a personalized content platform that allows fans to interact with celebrity or artist talent. In addition to that, and by implementing NFTs, Cameo can explore and assess how its fans react to metaverse-related efforts and expand beyond its initial core product of personalized celebrity shoutout videos.

Many metaverse-related technologies, such as NFTs, haven't served much purpose beyond one-time stunts or generating online brand buzz. However, the potential of what the metaverse could one day be remains appealing to digital-first companies like Cameo. Despite the business opportunity, most consumers aren't interested in the fully virtual world, even though mainstream categories like gaming hint at how popular the metaverse could be.

Using NFTs to connect customers to live or virtual events is a novel way for Cameo to draw attention to its expanding portfolio of offerings as it seeks to move beyond celebrity shoutout videos.
