Emirates Airline Introduces Crypto Payments and NFTs
Emirates, the largest airline in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), revealed at the 2022 Arabian Travel Market that it has intentions to adopt Bitcoin (BTC) payments and issue nonfungible tokens (NFTs) to be sold through the company's websites.
Customers will soon be able to pay for flights with Bitcoin, according to Emirates. The airline from Dubai also released further information about its plans to implement blockchain technology and NFTs into its business model.
The chief operating officer of Emirates, Adel Ahmed Al-Redha, reportedly stated at a media gathering held at the Arabian Travel Market that the Dubai-based airline will be onboarding new employees who will be focused on blockchain-related projects such as crypto payments, blockchain tracking, metaverse, and NFTs.
“NFTs and metaverse are two different applications and approaches,” said Adel Ahmed Al-Redha, adding that the airline also aims to use the blockchain in tracing records of aircraft.
In addition, the airline official stated that the metaverse may be used to digitalize activities such as operations, training, website sales, and other airline-related events. This, according to the airline's chief operating officer, will make the processes "more engaging."
