FIFA Partners with Algorand to launch a Soccer-Themed NFT Platform in Run-Up to World Cup22
FIFA, in partnership with Algorand, has announced that it will launch an NFT platform ‘FIFA+ Collect’ for soccer-themed digital collectibles in the months leading up to the 2022 World Cup.
FIFA+ Collect platform is scheduled to go live later this month. It will provide "cheap, inclusive, and accessible" NFTs that feature the best soccer events, artworks, and imagery. Moments from the renowned global soccer tournament's World Cup, which will begin in late November in Qatar, might possibly be turned into digital treasures. The platform will operate on the proof-of-stake Algorand blockchain, an alternative to Ethereum and Solana created by MIT professor Silvio Micali.
“Just like sports memorabilia and stickers, this is an accessible opportunity for fans around the world to engage with their favourite players, moments and more on new platforms,” said Romy Gai, FIFA’s Chief Business Officer.
According to the press release, FIFA will likely seek to capitalize on memorable in-game events and incorporate them with "art and imagery." According to the report, the platform, which is scheduled to launch in late September, will largely be focused on being accessible, affordable, and inclusive to all football fans worldwide.
“This announcement will make the FIFA collectibles accessible to all the fans around the globe, democratizing the capability to own an aspect of the FIFA World Cup. Similar to the sports memorabilia and stickers, this is an opportunity for the football fans to engage with the players, moments and more on the upcoming platforms,” said Romy Gai.
There will soon be more information about the collections that will mark the debut of FIFA+ Collect, as well as hints about the types of NFTs that will be introduced throughout the World Cup. The platform will also feature live soccer games, news, games, and original content.
