Mercedes-Benz Files for NFT & Metaverse Trademark Application
Mercedes-Benz, a German luxury automaker, has applied for five trademarks linked to the metaverse and non-fungible tokens(NFTs). The trademark applications, which were filed on December 14th, cover a broad range of Web3-related content, such as NFT-backed media, cryptocurrency trading, and virtual goods.
The automaker intends to offer metaverse items and potentially open a virtual goods store in the metaverse of its choice. Clothing, footwear, hats, sunglasses, glasses, sports equipment, and smartwatches are examples of digital items it may sell. It might also provide virtual car parts.
The five trademark applications include the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, G-Class, and Maybach automobile lines. Mike Kondoudis, a trademark lawyer who often publishes information on Web3 trademark applications in the United States, first revealed the news in a tweet on December 19th. Thus, Mercedes-Benz may possibly be interested in creating its own cryptocurrency, as indicated by the applications' content.
This isn’t Merecedes’ first foray into Web3 and the non-fungible token (NFT) industry. In January, the company teamed up with ‘Art2People’ to release a unique Mercedes-Benz NFT collection based on its G-Class car line.
The trademark filings from Mercedes-Benz show that businesses and major brands are still utilizing Web3, despite the current crypto winter. Although we'll have to wait and see what it intends to do with the applications, given the company's track record, success seems quite likely.
