Microsoft Announced its Acquisition of Activision Blizzard for $68.7 Billion
Microsoft Corp acquired Activision Blizzard Inc, a leader in game development and interactive entertainment content publisher in favor of accelerating the growth in Microsoft’s gaming business across mobile, PC, console and cloud and will provide building blocks for the metaverse.
While web3 and the metaverse have become hot topics in recent months, they are still notions that have yet to be fully realized through modern technology. With this latest acquisition, Microsoft seems to be betting on the future of gaming, and positioning itself to play a key part in the next evolution of the VR and AR gaming experience.
“Gaming is the most dynamic and exciting category in entertainment across all platforms today and will play a key role in the development of metaverse platforms,” Satya Nadella said, CEO of Microsoft. “We’re investing deeply in world-class content, community and the cloud to usher in a new era of gaming that puts players and creators first and makes gaming safe, inclusive and accessible to all.”
With Activision's industry-leading game technology and Microsoft's revolutionary artificial intelligence, the barriers between science fiction and reality may very well continue to blur as this new gaming colossus evolves.
