Moët Hennessy US Files NFT and Metaverse Trademark Applications with the USPTO
Moet Hennessy's US division, a leading importer and marketer of high-end wines, spirits, and champagne, has submitted five NFT and metaverse trademark applications for the names "Moet," "Moet & Chandon," and "Dom Perignon."
The new trademark application comes just a few days after another alcoholic brand, "Jack Daniels," submitted three patents with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) regarding Metaverse and NFTs.
Moet Hennessy plans to provide NFT and digital token authentication for digital items and artwork. Alcoholic beverages linked to NFTs via a QR code on the container. Additionally, services provided by physical or online retailers in connection to virtual products
providing bar services in virtual worlds and managing virtual restaurants.
The final filling point is particularly intriguing since it may prompt Moet Hennessy to create a metaverse bar or virtual restaurant and provide the brand's customers with a place to gather and interact.
The revelation was first announced via a Tweet by Washington, D.C.-based trademark attorney Mike Kondoudis. "Virtual champagne?" he wrote.
Even though the company hasn't made it clear what it intends to do with the trademarks if they are authorized, the applications' filling offers some indication of its intentions.
The year 2022 saw a record number of Web3 trademark applications. Recent analytics show a significant increase in the number of trademark applications for this emerging sector, as many businesses that had been hesitating to enter the Web3 market now want to do so.
