PROOF Collective Just Made its NFT Collections CC0 License, Creative Commons Zero
Kevin Rose, the creator of the popular non-fungible token (NFT) collection Moonbirds, has recently announced that both Moonbirds and Oddities will be licensed under a Creative Commons (CCO).
Moonbirds is one of 2022's most successful NFT ventures, generating more than $500 million in trading volume in just a few months. As of this writing, purchasing one will cost at least $29,500 in ETH. However, its makers have determined that you will not need to purchase a Moonbird to use its imagery.
A Creative Commons license indicates that the company's intellectual property has "no rights reserved" (IP). Legality permits creators to give up any legal rights to their work and place it in the public domain. In other words, there are no longer any copyright limitations, and anybody may freely utilize Moonbirds' and Oddities NFT work.
On August 5, a Q&A session was held at the Moonbirds Parliament Twitter Spaces to discuss the changes to the project's terms and services, which will be made available on its website.
The most successful NFT initiatives have been able to provide NFTs with real-world utility, and one crucial benefit for collectors is having complete control over the digital assets they own. By enabling anyone to utilize the Moonbirds and Oddities NFT collections however they see appropriate, rather than only NFT holders, Moonbirds is taking the concept a step further.
We'll have to wait and see what NFT collectors and fans think about the latest development, but if the BAYC's recent efforts are any indicator, Moonbirds and Oddities will likely be employed in creative and innovative ways.
