Spotify is Hiring a Web3 Engineer
The streaming leader is on the lookout for a senior backend engineer, with one of the job's main responsibilities being "uncovering" the next growth prospects in Web 3.0's developing technologies.
The job was posted on LinkedIn two weeks ago, and there have been 48 applications thus far. The Web 3.0 section in the job description also mentions facilitating collaboration among the product, insights, and design verticals.
The new employee will join the "Freemium" Research and Development team, which is in charge of driving growth in new technology sectors. The idea is to engage younger audiences, who are more likely to be familiar with Web 3.0 technology than previous generations.
Web 3.0 is a catch-all term for a number of technologies that are still in their early stages. Blockchain, virtual reality, and augmented reality are among the technologies. Metaverse, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and cryptocurrency are the hottest buzzwords in that sector of the technology industry.
Spotify is just the latest in a long line of companies looking to expand into the metaverse. Nike and Disney are among the companies on the shortlist, both of which are interested in establishing a presence in the metaverse. Other businesses have looked into incorporating NFTs, which are one-of-a-kind digital assets stored on the blockchain, into their products.
