Square Enix Partners With Polygon for an NFT Art Project ‘Symbiogenesis’
Square Enix, the Tokyo-based video gaming giant behind well-known series like Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts is introducing a gamified art-collecting experience in partnership with Polygon.
The interactive Web3 project dubbed ‘the Symbiogenesis’ was announced in November and will use the Polygon blockchain network to provide gamers with fast, secure, and sustainable transactions.
Today, the decentralized Polygon protocol's development and growth team, Polygon Labs, announced the partnership with the Japanese gaming publisher and creator Square Enix.
The press release states that the project would "provide a unique experience centered on digital collectible art linked to a narrative that gamers will experience in a virtual (turn-based) adventure. Every time a player employs a clever move, the art evolves."
The company says only three participants who meet specific requirements will be picked to participate in the final "World Mission," the company says.
"These special three will decide the story's ending, the fate of the world, and everyone in it."
Square Enix, founded in 2003, has been steadily moving toward Web3. In July of last year, it partnered with ENJIN to release NFTs based on the Final Fantasy series. Also in December, it invested 7 billion yen, or about $53 million, in Web3 gaming company Gumi.
Yosuke Matsuda, the company's president and representative director, announced "aggressive investment and business development efforts" in blockchain entertainment in a New Year's letter that was released last month. The gaming company said that as part of its 2023 plan, it is now developing "multiple blockchain games based on original [intellectual property]."
