Yves Saint Laurent Files for NFT & Metaverse Trademark Application
Luxury French fashion house, Yves Saint Laurent, has applied for trademarks for its name and logo, unveiling its plans to enter the metaverse and non-fungible token (NFT) space.
The trademark applications were submitted to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on January 12th, 2023, according to licensed trademark attorney Mike Koundoudis who tweeted the news.
The fashion house intends to sell downloadable and recorded virtual items in cosmetics, skincare, face care preparations, hair care, and other categories. Those digital wearables will be used in virtual worlds.
The trademark filing also includes downloadable multimedia files containing text, audio, artwork, and video on NFT-authenticated cosmetics, perfumes, toiletries, body care preparations, hair care, and color preparations. Furthermore, it suggests an online retail store where virtual products can be purchased. It also mentions physical retail outlets that offer digital items, most likely NFTs and digital wearables.
Yves Saint Laurent was founded in 1962 and is known for its leather accessories, footwear, haute couture, and cosmetics. It has been a fashion industry pioneer since its establishment. Although this is the brand's first major entry into Web3 and no specifics about its precise intentions have been disclosed, it is considered as one of the world's top luxury fashion firms.
Web3 technology is breaking down barriers in a variety of sectors, including fashion. We'll have to wait and see what Yves Saint Laurent does with their NFT and metaverse trademarks. However, it is clear that the famous fashion house is bullish on Web3. Here, at NFT Drops Calendar, we’ll keep an eye on any development in the story.
